Arlene Sonday is a Founding Fellow and first President of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, which is the only professional Orton-Gillingham credentialing organization. Ms. Sonday served as a member of the Advisory Board of the 32nd Degree Masons during the time the Learning Center concept was developed and implemented in ten states. She has served as Vice-President of the International Dyslexia Association, on the Board of Directors for Learning Disabilities Minnesota, on the Minnesota Adult Literacy Coalition, on the Advisory Board of the Fairleigh Dickinson Dyslexia Specialist Certificate program, a founding member and board member of Orton-Gillingham Minnesota, past president of the Upper Midwest Branch of the International Dyslexia Association, and past member of the Advisory Council of the Scottish Rite Children's Learning Centers. She has been inducted into the Marquis Who's Who of American Women in Education.
Ms. Sonday holds a Master of Arts degree in Special Education and held a Minnesota Learning Disabilities certification. Ms. Sonday consults to school systems, colleges and organizations involved in starting support for remedial programs for adolescents and adults. She is an adjunct faculty member at Hamline University, MN, Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU), NJ, and serves on the Advisory Board for FDU's program development. She was involved in creating and teaching the graduate course sequence for the dyslexia specialist certification at FDU. She frequently lectures, teaches and implements programs worldwide, including: England, China, Egypt, Kuwait, Pakistan, and India; where English is a frequent language used in education and business. Arlene Sonday has been teaching struggling readers, including those with dyslexia, for forty years. Her extensive experience as a reading professional has resulted in the development of the Sonday System® Product Line (Let's Play Learn®, Sonday System - Learning to Read®, and Sonday System 2®). All of the programs are highly successful, multisensory, structured phonics curricula approaches to teaching reading, writing, and spelling.
